ABOUT THE PUBLISHER

Jon Laurenson is the publisher and creative director behind Summersite Media and the debut of The Summersite – a travel and lifestyle print magazine. But that’s only what he’s up to right now.

He’s a bit of a visionary, a ghostwriter behind countless brands, products and ventures. You probably didn’t know that his first ever gig in the world of business was a job making and distributing boomerangs and brewing beer with a bunch of hippies in Perth, Western Australia. But that was when he was only 14. He just wanted to make a bit of cash and surf all day with his mates. Not much has changed really.

You might know that his history includes heading up sales and marketing for Arnette sunglasses in their boom time of the late 90’s and then co-founding Electric Visual in 2000. He put his head down, worked hard (but surfed harder), and turned a small time start up into a multi-million dollar brand. But no biggie really, he was chasing the next challenge and quickly moved to take on the fashion industry. As the distributor for Poko Pano Bikinis and Brixton he established a finesse for nurturing niche brands, something he’s continued to do with his involvement in Vampirate Surfboards, Fallen Broken Street, The Anchor Bar Bondi and Komune at Keramas in Bali.

The SUMMERSITE – ISSUE ONE available from March 1st 2016 in selected retail boutiques, hotels and online at Summersite.com

ECCO showcases the best in leather at its ECCO Leather Factory Petit Event

I made my own bag at the ECCO Leather Factory Petit Event on Thursday 25 February 2016, and this has been the best event EVER.

ECCO flew its team in from the Netherlands and transformed a warehouse in Alexandria into a leather workshop equipped with everything required to make leather goods including all supplies for making a leather bag.

Australian media and bloggers were then invited to come and experience the quality and innovative technology of ECCO leather. The variety of leather was incredible. There was leather from different animals (cow, yak, sheep, pig etc.) in a multitude of colours and thickness. There was even glow in the dark leather and heat sensitive leather that changed colour when heat was applied!

Participants could choose to either make a purse, a clutch or a large carry bag.  The results were amazing. Although the designs were provided, some people changed those designs to make their bag more unique.  Everyone’s personality come through in the bags they produced. The creativity of the participants coupled with the quality of the leather meant that the bags that were made looked like they could easily retail anywhere for more than $100 (and for some people’s bags for more than $300).

Everyone knows that ECCO is a leading brand of shoes that combine style and comfort, but few know that ECCO is one of the largest producers of high quality leather, supplying leather to luxury brands such as Louis Vutton.

In fact, 50 per cent of its business is the supply of leather to other brands. ECCO leather supplies leather to innovative brands such as Apple (for iphone/IPAD cases and wrist bands for watches), Alexander Wang (for clothing) and Indigo jeans (for combining leather with denim).

The company was founded in 1963. It is one of the few major shoes manufacturers in the world that owns and manages every aspect of its leather and shoe productions and its retail sales.

Today ECCO’s shoes and accessories are sold in 88 countries at 3,060 ECCO shops and shop-in-shops and at 14,000 sales points around the world.

The company is family-owned and employs 19,800 people worldwide. It has factories in the Netherlands, Thailand, China and indonesia.

ECCO’s newest innovation is the second edition of its successful ECCO INTRINSIC sneaker collection – INTRINSIC 2 and INTRINSIC KARMA.

This new brand is designed to help people embrace a balanced lifestyle and make dressing up and down a breeze.

Features include direct-injected outsoles with flex zones, a low-profile design for greater comfort and flexible inlay soles shaped for natural movement.

In addition to experiencing the FUN of making a bag and getting to take it home, participants were also gifted a pair of shoes of their choice.

Now how nice is that!

New Look Holden Cruz launches in Sydney with a social experiment

Holden partnered with speed dating company, Fast Impressions, to send five single guys and girls on their first date in the new-look Holden Cruz to test one simple hypothesis: “You don’t know someone until you drive with them”.

The five couples were filmed while they cruised around Sydney in the new-look Holden Cruze to see if in-car tensions would ‘make or brake’ their budding romances. Utilising the new-look Cruze’s in-car technology, the couples faced challenges including navigating around Sydney and completing a reverse park.

On 3 March 2015, the results of this social experiment were revealed at an exclusive Holden Cruze launch party at the Bourbon Hotel in Sydney where the footage of the five in-car dates were critiqued by an expert panel of judges, including relationships expert and psychologist at the University of Western Sydney, Dr Peter Jonason and former Miss Universe Australia, Laura Dundovic, who also happens to have a Masters Degree in Psychology. The event was hosted by MC Pete Lazer from Shopping for Love.

The most compatible couple won a trip to the Hunter Valley (which they could take together or separately) and a new-look Holden Cruze to drive for 3 months.

The winning couple – Loretta Jacob and Aashish Chopra – were announced on the evening and chosen by the judges due to their sizzling chemistry (they even shared an on-stage kiss much to the delight of the audience).

Holden’s Director of Communications, Sean Poppitt who spoke at the event, said that the social experiment was a unique way of communicating Cruze’s strengths as a connected, feature packed car that would take away some of the tension points that traditionally play up between couples on the road.

“With its easy to use features like remote start, keyless entry and award winning infotainment system, the Cruze makes the everyday less every day and lets passengers focus on enjoying each other’s company, rather than winding each other up,” Mr. Poppitt said.

Research reveals that most tension among Australian couples while in the car were heated conversations about road directions (29 per cent), frustrations with their partner’s driving (18 per cent) and complaints from their partner about their own driving (9 per cent).

“Couples who were able to successfully complete the challenges without losing their cool have a much higher chance of succeeding in a long-term relationship.”
