Mrs Sippy celebrates their fifth birthday with a Studio 54 themed party

Mrs Sippy celebrated their fifth birthday on Thursday 23 February 2017 with incredible food, bottomless drinks, great music and an A-list crowd.

Owners Ben, Kate, Andrew and Angus choose a Studio 54 theme for the big occasion and decorated the venue with disco balls, and gold, silver and white balloons.

The carefully curated food options for the night included: freshly shucked oysters with shiso, kaffir lime, yuzu mignonette; salmon poke with avocado, pickled daikon radish, soy and mirin dressing and sesame; poached king prawns with chipotle mayo; smoked ocean trout with horseradich cream and beetroot; spiced BBQ Korean chicken with sesame and shallots; and spiced pork belly with mint and coriander dressing, betel leaf, pickled daikon and shitake mushrooms.  Mrs Sippy also served their popular pizzas including: margherita, Sicilian olive, wild mushroom, pepperoni, spicy nduja, and prosciutto.

For drinks, guests were spoilt with what seemed like an endless supply of watermelon and grapefruit punch; Verve Clicquot champagne; 2014 Hen Pecked Shiraz; and 2015 Hen Pecked Sauvignon Blanc.

The A-listers that attended included: Bachelor star Lisa Hyde; singer Casey Burgess; son of Today Show entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins, Christian Wilkins; designer Pip Edwards; NRL player Tom Burgess; actor Ben Mingay; radio announcer Tim Ross, Nova’s Greg Burns and Matt De Groot; Porsche racing car driver Aaron Zerefos and celebrity men’s stylist Joshua Heath.

Guests listened to impressive music throughout the night including a live performance from Amy Chase with DJ Bren spinning the decks.

So Frenchy So Chic in the Park – a day of celebrating French culture, food, wine and music

Crowds packed Bicentiennial Park, Glebe on Saturday 21 January 2016 for the annual, So Frenchy So Chic in the Park, a French festival of food, wine and music.

Renault was one of the proud sponsors of the event and they provided chauffeur driven vehicles to all their guests (which included me) to travel to and from the event in comfort. On the way there, I experienced all the features of the Renault Koleos including the advanced safety features, the intuitive R-link 2 sat-nav and the premium accoustic performance of the BOSE® audio system.

At the festival, Sydneysiders had a day of joie de vivre, with French delicacies from a selection of gourmet food stalls, French wine and beer from a number of pop-up bars and live music from four impressive French bands. Kids also had lots of fun at the kids zone getting their faces painted and playing a number of lawn games.

In the Renault private picnic area, food was supplied by fine food caterer Simmone Logue. Guests enjoyed: a lunch picnic box consisting of a baguette filled with poached chicken, tarragon mayonnaise, charred peppers and butter lettuce, a braised leek and gruyere quiche with buttery creme fraiche pastry, a salad jardinere with French bean and julienne vegetables, a lemon curd cheesecake and petit four chocolate ganache tart; an cheese picnic box with a variety of cheeses (Bon-Mon-Sire, Bieu Auvergne la Veronne and Comte 6 months), accompanied by quince paste, strawberries, grapes and a crusty baguette; and a dessert box of red, white and blue macarons. All this was watered down with Laurent Perrier champagne and a selection of French wines.

The line-up of French musicians was impressive. The four bands were: Nouvelle Vague, The Liminanas, Bertrand Belin, and Deluxe. Nouvelle Vague means new wave and are considered the royalty of French contemporary music. They have had a number famous female lead singers (including Camille, Melanie Pain and Vanessa Paradis) and they return to Sydney for the first time since 2012. The Liminanas comes from Perpignan, South of France. They sing in both French and English and echo the sensuality of 60s French pop and American rock. Brittany born and Paris based Bertrand Belin is a jack of all trades. He is an actor, writer and funk-folk musician. He has five albums and is one of France’s most fascinating singers. Deluxe comes from Aix-en-Provence and progressed from humble buskers to sell-out concerts in Europe. They were the final act and people in the crowd told me that they came especially to see them.

During the day people were enjoying their picnics and at night they were all dancing near the stage.

Hotel Ravesis relaunches just in time for summer

Hotel Ravesis celebrated the relaunch of their hotel with a party on Thursday 10 November 2016.

Ravesis is located opposite Bondi beach and has unbeatable views of the beach and sidewalk. The hotel was built over a hundred years ago by two Italian immigrants called the Ravesis brothers. They sold the building about 25 years ago to its current owners who refurbished it and turned it into a Bondi institution. The venue has been refurbished again just in time for summer. Inspired by the beachside playgrounds of Miami and Cuba, the hotel has resurrected its former art deco glory.  The interiors have been replaced with a lighter colour palatte of citruses and pale pinks.

Ex-Catalina chef Peter Streckfuss has been hired as head chef and will be serving Mediterranean inspired dishes. The cocktails will mostly be the classics with a twist, and the hotel has entered into a partnership with Pommery to supply the champagne.

The party was attended by mostly Bondi locals who came to see the new look of Bondi’s most iconic boutique hotel while enjoying cocktails, canapes and live entertainment.

The cocktails of the night were: Sgroppino made from Messina lemon sorbet, Ketel One Citron and prosecco and Passionfruit Collins made from Tanqueray gin, passionfruit juice and mint garnish.

Guests were also offered: Heineken; Heineken 3; Tyrells Moores Creek Semillon Sauvignon Blanc; Ravesis Pinor Noir; Brut de Villeroy French Champagne; Brut De Villeroy French Sparkling and Pommery Champagne.

The canapes served were: goats cheese tart; prawn sliders; tuna sliders; mushroom polenta; and rare roast beef croutons.

Hotel Ravesis is perfect for those lazy afternoon drinks in the downstairs bar or a glam night of eating and dancing upstairs on their terrace. It also has 12 boutique hotel rooms to stay at.

Hotel Ravesis is located at 118 Campbell Parade Bondi beach NSW 2026.

Turn the party up with a new app by Ultimate Ears

A new app that allows you to connect up to 50 wireless Ultimate Ears speakers together was launched at Carriageworks in Eveleigh on Wednesday 5 October 2016.

Three years ago, Ultimate Ears launched their first portable wireless bluetooth speaker that provided 360 degree sound and was water resistant. Then in January 2015, Ultimate Ears released the larger UE Megaboom which had bigger sound, better waterproofing and extended battery life. Later in September 2015, Ultimate Ears released UE Boom 2 which featured IPX7 waterproofing, 25 percent more volume and a greater wireless range. These speakers also had free apps that you could connect two or more speakers together to create even louder sound.

Now, with the addition of the PartyUp app, you can wirelessly connect a mix of UE BOOM, UE BOOM 2 and UE MEGABOOM speakers together, allowing you to crank up the music in places where no other sound system can go.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of the app, more than 50 UE Booms hung from the ceiling of Carriageworks and were played simultaneously at the event. Other entertainment included The Twins DJs djing, robots who walked around on stilts, and a woman performed with fire and a power tool to create sparks.

The event was attended by members the tech media world and influencers such as the selfie king Kurt Coleman, Meg and Dom from Citizens of the World, former MTV VJ Kristian Schmidt, half of the Cronulla Sharks football team, and fashion stylist Joshua Heath.

PartyUp is available through the iOS® and Android™ app stores beginning today. This free app enhancement works with UE BOOM, UE BOOM 2 and UE MEGABOOM through the UE BOOM and UE MEGABOOM apps. Speakers are sold separately. For more information, please visit http://www.ultimateears.com/en-au.

For drinks, guests were spoilt with a range of cocktails including: the Beluga Moscow Mule (a classic Moscow Mule made with the famous Beluga Vodka); the Burlito (a twist on a Mojito using gin and cherry herring liquor; Sloe Negroni (a twist on the classic Negroni using sloe gin); and authentic Sangria (made with the 84 Union St’s signature recipe).
