Fratelli Famous and The Bavarian opened at World Square Shopping Centre and invited media to a pizza masterclass and beer tasting on Tuesday 18 October 2016.
Fratelli Famous is a fast casual pizzeria spin-off of Fratelli Fresh. Similarly, The Bavarian is a fast counter service version of The Bavarian Bier Cafe. It has all the biers from the The Bavarian Bier Cafe and a few more. Both venues are co-joined under one roof with shared indoor and outdoor seating and a communal bar.
For our pizza masterclass, we got to: choose our base from a choice of three (Neapolitan, sourdough and gluten free); knead the dough and attempt to toss it up in the air (if you could like a professional); choose our sauce from a choice of four (red, sugo, white and green); choose our cheese from a choice of seven (mozzarella, fontina, feta, parmesan, scamorza, gorgonzola and vegan cheese); and then pick as many toppings as we wanted. We then sat back and watched it cook in just 90 seconds!
How is it that the pizza be cooked so quickly? Well, Fratelli Famous has brought the first Wood Stone dual wood and gas fired oven to Australia that cooks pizzas to golden, blistering perfection in just 90 seconds.
For those who can’t choose from so many options, there are nine signature pizzas on offer including: classic margherita; fire roast chicken; bianca all cheese; spicy vegan; green rocket; great balls of fire; meat inferno; chorizo, and crispy greens (salad pizza). There are also breakfast pizzas, dessert pizzas, build your own salads, thick shakes and house-made gelato.
In contrast, The Bavarian has a selection of schnitzels, burgers, house-made sausages, fries with different toppings, chicken wings with a choice of sauces and hotdogs. The Bavarian favourites are also on the menu including crispy pork knuckle, crackling pork belly and tasting platters. There are also specials for every day of the week and The Bavarian Schnitzelmeister Challenge every day of the week where you can receive $100 1kg veal schnitzel for free if they can eat it in one hour with four side dishes.
The Bavarian has 17 impressive beers on tap including imported favourites such as Hofbrau, Stiegl, Paulaner, Franziskaner and Lowerbrau, and 11 exclusive craft beers that are brewed by Urban Brewing Co. Yes, they do brew their own beer!
For the beer tasting, I got to sample the following beers: Bella Bira Italian lager; Devil’s Daughter double IPA imperial Indian pale ale; Sweet Caroline Summer Sessions lager; Bavarian Hofbaru Dunkel dark lager; Butchers Bride pale ale; and Munich lager.
Urban Craft Brewing will also host the following Sydney Craft Beer week events:
