Four artists will auction their art for charity

The opening night of Project Five (Volume 8) at the Darling Quarter Village Green on Friday 30 September 2016 featured the live painting of four headline street artists. The artworks they created are now going under the hammer at an auction at the Lend Lease Darling Quarter Theatre (from 6pm) on Thursday 27 October 2016.

Launching in 2009, Project Five is Australia’s longest-running contemporary street art project that was first conceived by aMBUSH Gallery. The collaboration has raised over $100,000 for Australian not-for-profit arts initiatives, while at the same time commissioning 32 urban artists, and entertaining millions of visitors. It has also hosted kids’ art workshops and a month long public exhibition at aMBUSH Gallery’s outdoor gallery space, OPEN, at Darling Quarter. This year, the charity is Monkey Baa Theatre Company.

The opening night included live painting by the four headline artists, a DJ spinning tunes, wine and canapes being circulated, and a crowd of onlookers observing the creation of the art.

On Thursday 27 October 2016, art lovers can purchase those artworks from the four edgy street artists: Kaff-eine, Brett Chan, Georgia Hill and Mik Shida, for a good cause.

The auction of Project Five (Volume 8) will be presided over by FBi’s prolific deejay Stephen Ferris and Art Market Works auctioneer Anne Phillips.

All hopeful collectors need to do is visit Project Five’s website and register to attend.

Street art aficionados Bill Dimas and John Wiltshire, co-Directors of aMBUSH Gallery, Project Five’s curators and passionate promoters of contemporary street art, say this is not just a chance to own a piece of Australian art history, but also to support Project Five’s nominated charity partner not-for-profit kids’ theatre company Monkey Baa.

Come along and see these compelling and powerful works by Australia’s up and coming artists. Buyers of the artwork are not only making a great investment to own a piece of collectable art, they are also supporting artistic experiences for young people.

Angel Muse, the fragrance that you will #hatetolove, launches in Sydney

Mugler shakes up the Angel galaxy by launching a new Angel Muse Eau de Parfum at the Pailisade Hotel at Millers Point on Tuesday 27 September 2016.

The new fragrance comes in a new rose gold coloured futuristic bottle with a silver metal ring. It has been described as having both a hazelnut cream and vetiver scent.

Pink was the theme of the event and the drinks matched the colour scheme. Guests drank pink prosecco, rose and Patron tequilla cocktails made from pink grapefruit juice, lime and a strawberry to garnish. For canapes guests enjoyed: spiced cauliflower with almond crunch and smokey sauce; tomato salad with ricotta, confit eschallot, basil, soft bread and balsamic; fresh prawns and oysters; and an Asian noodle salad with minced ginger, pepper and bean sprouts.

The most impressive food was the dessert table which included: a large pink coloured cake; cup cakes with pink icing; pink glazed donuts; pink marshmallows; pink nougat; red candied apples; large lollipops; pink musk sticks, purple and white candy canes;  and bowls of fresh strawberries and raspberries.

The event was MCed by the former Miss World Australia Erin V. Holland. Other notable guests from the make-up world included celebrity make-up artist Michael Brown.

Guests viewed a video clip with the ultimate rock chick, Georgia May Jagger, starring as the face of Thierry Mugler’s Angel Muse. Georgia May Jagger follows in the footsteps of her mother, Jerry Hall, as the face of Mugler. In the clip, Georgia May Jagger surrenders to her addiction. As she goes to seize the bottle, a number of cosmic like circles form around her as if to be engulfed by a whirlwind of the fragrance. She then holds the bottle close to her.

The fragrance invites women to shamelessly surrender to the fragrance.

Located just a stone’s throw away from The Star Sydney, 84 Union Street is one of the few in Sydney that still has live music (from Wednesday to Saturday each week) because it is not affected by lockout laws and residents complaints about noise.

This venue does not look like a typical restaurant, cafe and bar. The walls have majestic landscape paintings and the hallway outside the bathrooms has cartoonish art. The room is lit up with blue, pink and green lights which give the place a casual but smart atmosphere.

There is a diverse range of food including: the 84 Union St tasting platter of crispy pork belly bites, smoked pulled chicken Tacos, handmade Aranchini balls, and crispy dumplings; crispy chicken dumplings; crispy chicken and shitake mushroom dumpling served with Kikkoman sauce; Kilpatrick New Zealand mussels; fresh New Zealand mussels roasted with bacon and Kilpatrick sauce and lemon; wagyu beef sliders; marinated wagyu beef on brioche with cheese, caramelised onion and homemade BBQ sauce; smoky Tasmanian salmon served on toasted bread, lime aioli and fresh dill; roasted duck spring rolls; special handmade roasted duck spring roll with cauliflower piccalilli; grilled satay chicken skewer; grilled marinated cocktail satay chicken skewer with satay dipping sauce; mixed sushi platter; and mixed sushi platter served with Kikkoman and wasabi sauce.

For drinks, guests were spoilt with a range of cocktails including: the Beluga Moscow Mule (a classic Moscow Mule made with the famous Beluga Vodka); the Burlito (a twist on a Mojito using gin and cherry herring liquor; Sloe Negroni (a twist on the classic Negroni using sloe gin); and authentic Sangria (made with the 84 Union St’s signature recipe).

Other drinks included red and white wine and local craft beers such as Akasha beer.

84 Union Street is located at 84 Union Street Pyrmont. It is open Monday to Wednesday and Sunday from 10am to midnight, and Thursday to Saturday from 10am to 1am.

Spend a ‘Night with the Nail’ every Thursday with Drambuie

Drambuie, a Scotch Whisky liqueur, was relaunched with a cocktail tasting party and some jazz music by Louis Armstrong’s grandson, Herb Armstrong, at the New Orleans inspired bar, The Swinging Cat on Wednesday 7 September 2016.

As part of this relaunch, Drambuie launched a three month bar activation called, ‘A Night with the Nail’, which commences on 8 September 2016 and recurs every Thursday at The Swinging Cat. The evening will promote the Drambuie cocktail, The Rusty Nail, and patrons will be treated to live jazz music as they enjoy the night at the New Orleans inspired underground bar, The Swinging Cat.

Patrons can expect to hear a few phone calls from the Drambuie ‘Barkeep’s Phone’, which will ring throughout the night. Whoever answers the phone first receives a round of Rusty Nail’s for themselves and their friends on the house.

Patrons could also win a Rusty Nail Kit including a bottle of Drambuie, a bottle of Monkey Shoulder Scotch Whisky, a mixing spoon, ice mould and tumblers, by uploading a photo of themselves enjoying a Rusty Nail with the hashtag #nightwiththenail on instagram.

The Rusty Nail is a classic cocktail made with one part Drambuie, two parts Scotch Whisky and a lemon twist over ice. It was made famous by the Rat Pack in the infamous New York nightclubs of the early 60s and served at the renowned ‘21 Club’  that was frequented by Hemmingway, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and JFK.

No one is certain of how The Rusty Nail got its name. Some say it got its name from the immigrant Scot bartenders stirring the cocktail with a rusty nail before serving it to their American patrons. Others say it is likely to get its name from its rusty, amber colour.
