Olmeca’s Maestro Tequilero, Jesús Hernández, is visiting Australia to host an exciting series of Olmeca experiences, including a tequila masterclass on Monday 13 June 2016 at the Merivale venue Palmer & Co. Sydney and the judging of the Tahona Society Cocktail Competition on Tuesday 14 June 2016 at the Merivale venue El Loco Excelsior, Surry Hills, both of which I attended.
Olmeca Altos Tequila is a super-premium 100% ‘agave tequila’ produced in Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico. It was created by bartenders and launched in 2009 with the aim of creating a high quality 100% agave tequila at an affordable price.
The tequila masterclass explained the unique production process of Olmeca Altos Tequila which includes hand-picked agave plants, masonry ovens, cultivated yeast and distillation in small copper pot stills. Five different Olmeca Altos Tequilas were tasted including one that is not available in Australia yet.
The Tahona Society Cocktail Competition was created by Olmeca Altos Tequila. Thalita from Bulletin Place (representing NSW) was the overall winner. She will be heading to Jalisco, Mexico in September on an all-expenses paid trip to represent Australia in the global final. The global winner will become the Tahona Society Global Ambassador for one year and present in four countries of his or her choice.
Mr. Hernández will also travel to Melbourne (Wed 15 June) and Brisbane (Thurs 16 June) to deliver an education program to bartenders.
