Japanese bar Goros launches in Surry Hills

On 4 December 2014, Goros, a new Japanese bar located at Mary Street Surry Hills (at the former Taylors on Central Hotel site) hosted media and VIP guests for their official opening night.

The venue is run by the hospitality group Solotel, the company behind great bars such as the Opera Bar, Quay Bar, Clock Hotel, Courthouse and Riverbar in Brisbane, in partnership with a Japanese man called Goro. Goro recites his tale on leaving Japan and coming to Australia on the Goros website.

Surry Hills is quickly becoming ‘the place’ to be Sydney. It is away from the lockout area. Goros is the perfect venue to unwind, eat great food, drink great beer, sake and most importantly, have fun.

At Goros, the alcohol list is exceptional. From Japanese sake to cocktails with a twist, Goro’s offers drinks that won’t be found anywhere else (including their mango beer). When it comes to food, it is not design to share. The menu features traditional Japanese street food such as yakitori, karaage and gyoza – all delivered in small, ready-to-eat servings – no cutting involved. For lunchtime visitors, bento boxes, hand rolls and donburi of the day are also available.

This brand new venue is in stark contrast to the pub furnishings, pool tables, and poker room of the previous tenant. The interior of Goros is filled with items collected from Goro’s exotic world travels – family photos, souvenirs and a mish mash of Japanese paraphernalia. Television screens with Iron Chef, baseball and the incredible game show that brought Goro to Sydney are on repeat – there’s always something to watch.

Goros will be open Monday to Saturday until late. Visit goros.com.au for more information about the menu and Goros, the man himself!
